my 'life version 2.0' began in a seedy hotel room on the el camino. the air hung on us, layered with the faint scent of nicotine that stuck to the sweaty creases of our naked skin. the bed pushed on my back like a brick and the thin blankets pooled around us offering no protection against the frigid february.

neither of us knew that this event marked both the beginning of our demise and the conception of our son, effectively ending my 'life version 1.0'
